PANASONIC ROOM Blessed and Inaugurated at SFIST, Malilipot, Albay

The San Francisco Institute of Science and Technology, Malilipot, Albay blessed and inaugurated the newly installed Panasonic Room last September 11, 2011. This room is a self-contained training facility wherein trainees bound for industry training in Panasonic will have their “Hands-on” on the equipment and work activities similar to the workplace. SFIST History

The San Francisco Institute of Science and Technology began as San Francisco High School which was established in 1965 under the leadership of Mr. Manuel Renovilla, former Public School District Supervisor, Mr. Maximo Boneo, former Principal of San Francisco Elementary School; the late Mayor Marciano Bitara and members of Malilipot Municipal Council; the San Francisco Barangay Council headed by then Barrio Lieutenant Diosdado Palces and some civic-minded citizens.
Initially 87 students enrolled under an emergency plan. The classes were conducted from 3:00 in the afternoon to 7:00 in the evening under one permanent and two part-time teachers.
After its third year of operation, only First and Second Year Levels remained while the Third and Fourth Year Levels were absorbed by the Tabaco National High School. This was due to lack of funds. However, during the School Year 1969-1970, the Third and Fourth Year students returned, and two years later, the First Commencement Exercises of San Francisco Barangay High School was held.
In 1989, San Francisco Barangay High School was nationalized together with all the other Barangay High Schools in the country. Thus, San Francisco Barangay High School became San Francisco High School. By that time, San Francisco High School already had an enrollment of 839 students. It had then 22 faculty members under the leadership of a new school head, Mr. Romeo B. Bobis.
Early in 1994, Mr. Bobis with the help of the faculty members submitted a proposal to First District Congressman Edcel C. Lagman, converting San Francisco High School to San Francisco Institute of Science and Technology. This was due to the rising demand of quality, accessible and equitable technological education, not only in the Municipality of Malilipot but throughout the First District of Albay. Congressman Lagman sponsored the said proposal in the Congress as House Bill No. 12097 and on March 1, 1995 it was approved by President Fidel V. Ramos as Republic Act 7936.
Today the San Francisco Institute of Science and Technology has an increasing enrollment while it continues to grow and respond to the challenge of our ever-changing society geared towards global competitiveness.
